What is the difference between a "Registered Dietitian-Nutritionist" and a "nutritionist?"As a Registered Dietitian-Nutritionist, I have completed a Bachelor's and Master's degree in nutrition. I have also completed American Dietetic Association Accredited clinical internships and passed national board exams. I also have the ability to diagnose nutrition-related problems. A "nutritionist" is a blanket, unregulated term that anybody can claim themselves as. There are no credentials required to be considered a nutritionist, but there is a Master's, Bachelor's, clinical internship, and board exam required to be a Registered Dietitian-Nutritionist.

Do you accept insurance?I operate as an out-of-network provider. If you have out-of-network benefits, you may be provided with a Superbill at the end of each month, which can be submitted to insurance carriers for potential reimbursement. You should check with your insurance carrier for details of your coverage. If you would like to inquire about Out of Network Reimbursement, call the number on the back of your insurance card and ask the following questions to verify reimbursement before booking your first appointment: Do I have out-of-network benefits to see a Registered Dietitian for the following CPT codes: initial session 97802, follow-up sessions 97803. If yes, what amount of the fee will you cover? Is pre-authorization required in order to submit an out-of-network claim? What is the deductible, and how much of the deductible have I met? You may also ask exactly how to submit your Superbill for reimbursement. If your insurance plan does not cover nutrition counseling but you do have a Health Savings Account or Flexible Spending Account (HSA/FSA) card, you can use that to pay for your sessions.

How would you describe your approach to nutrition coaching?I take a behavioral approach to nutrition counseling and wellness coaching. I want to help you implement health-promoting behaviors so that you can feel a positive difference in your energy levels, mood, and more. True wellness is not about being smaller or "looking toned" – true wellness is about FEELING more ALIVE! I also believe in a holistic approach. When I am making recommendations, I consider health science as well as your values, your innate wisdom, your unique experiences, and a spectrum of holistic modalities. I also value collaboration with other healthcare providers. I might request to collaborate with your doctor, your therapist, or another provider, especially if you are recovering from an eating disorder. I believe that nutrition behaviors and body image do not develop in a vacuum. Because of this, I am dedicated to staying aware of the ways in which identity and systemic matters influence nutrition and health. Further, I believe it it is critical to explore the roots of your health behaviors and health-related values in order to make sustainable change. I believe that a judgment-free environment is key for healing and discovering a sense of authentic health. I will never judge or pathologize your size, your eating habits, or your exercise behaviors. I am here to help you find what helps YOU feel more alive. I am here to help you define what health and wellness mean to YOU, so that you can create an individualized and sustainable self-care toolbox. I believe that you already have all of the "answers" within you; I am here to help you recognize and utilize them.

Do you provide weight loss plans? The pursuit of weight loss is not the same thing as the pursuit of health. So I do NOT use weight loss as a marker of progress in our work. To mark your progress, I use things like energy levels, quality of life, mental/emotional state, blood pressure, lab values, digestion, rate of perceived exertion...and MANY other factors besides body weight, shape, or size. Instead of pursuing weight loss, I believe in pursuing better energy levels, less stress, a better relationship with food, better digestion, and holistic wellbeing. **If you are in recovery from an eating disorder or another medical condition, weight trends might be tracked, but only as a marker of medical safety.
